Empathy vs. Sympathy...
Do you think these words mean the same thing? Well, if you said yes you're not completely wrong, but you're definitely not completely right. Sympathy is the FEELING of pity or sorrow for someone else's misfortune. Empathy is the UNDERSTANDING another person's condition. An example of sympathy is me feeling bad for Becky because she is sad about losing her aunt, but I don't have an aunt so I can't relate to this. An example of empathy is me understanding what Becky is going through because her boyfriend broke up with her, and I totally had my heart broken in third grade. Both empathy and sympathy may or may not have something to do with a shared experience, but sympathy is about having feelings towards the subject while empathy is thinking about and understanding the subject. Empathy is a very important tool for historians. It is essential for historians to understand people of the past's conditions from their own perspective. Hopefully you guys can realize the differences between sympathy and empathy now.

United States 1600s-Civil War

Hey guys, did y'all know the United States actually grew a lot as a nation during the time of the 1600s through the Civil War? It sounds surprising considering how many problems we faced during that time. During this period of time the main issue was slavery(which was really not okay). This caused a lot of conflict between the colonies due to people having very strong opinions on both sides, but it was handled by many compromises over the years(it took way too long to get rid of slavery if I'm being honest). Through all of this conflict the US was still gaining more territories such as Louisiana and Gadsden. The United States found ways to stay united within theses major disagreements but eventually the Civil War was started to end slavery.
